Matt + Stacey

There's so much to be said for these two. They've got style. They've got class. They are so madly in love and invested in each other, they lose track of the world around them. They deeply care for their friends and family, so much moreso than themselves. They just love and invest in people, in each other, in their goals and hopes and dreams; and they do it all together.

You might remember these two from their gorgeous early November engagement session in Traverse City. At that point in time when we shot those photos, they had planned on getting married in October of 2015, in an airplane hangar, with a huge amount of people surrounding them. As we went through that day, enjoyed the beauty of the bay and the nature, and the serenity of Traverse City; we talked. We talked about what their journey to that point had meant. What they'd been through, how they came to be, how Stacey's little man Cash fit into all of it. Then we talked about some of the smaller weddings I had photographed: the elopements, the ones that focused on the very closest of friends and family. When I left them that day I got a text from Matt saying "I'm fairly certain we want to move up the date." I just gave him a "I'm ready when you are." and waited for the word. On their way home the following day I receive another text, all it says is "12/27/14?" I let them know I'd be there, wherever that was. Turns out, that meant slashing the guest list, canceling the airplane hangar, and heading north; right to where we had just shot a day prior.

Just over a month later we convened back in Traverse City, a place Matt had flown them to so many times before and they had fallen in love with. The day involved only those who absolutely mattered most, and we spent the whole day jumping around town, the Old Mission Peninsula for the ceremony and dinner at Bowers Harbor Inn (yeah, I'll shot in an old haunted lumber baron's house anytime), Morsels for coffee and cake (if you don't get coffee and treats when you're in TVC, you're doing it wrong), and finished up with drinks and dancing at Left Foot Charley. Honestly, this day was beautiful in every single way. It was so them, and so perfectly timed and paired down to the essentials. At the end of it all, I was just so thankful to be a part of it.
