Detroit Wedding Photographer

Liz + Joe

Man, I'm so far overdue on showing you guys any of my 2016 weddings. Why not start it off with a bang and show you two of the kindest, most beautiful souls I had the pleasure of photographing last year? Liz and Joe became more than just clients, in such a short period of time and I'm so thankful to have gotten to see and document the incredible story of their love. Plus, Planterra never ceases to freaking kill it with every single wedding.

This place is gorgeous in every nook and cranny and so perfectly complemented the laid-back, fresh and fun wedding that Liz + Joe wanted to put together. So throw some coffee in that cup, put on your favorite Bon Iver tune, and slow-scroll the crap out of this stupidly adorable couple's wedding day. You'll be glad you did.

Doug + Stacy

When your good friend, who has been the backbone of your photobooth company since its inception re-finds the love of his life (for the umpteenth time), and finally puts a ring on it; you celebrate. You take pictures, you gallivant Detroit, and you laugh your faces off for hours. Doug + Stacy are special kind of people, my kind of people and I can't even wait for this wedding day to roll around.

Taryn + Sam

There's certain people you meet in life, and especially in a job such as mine that just give off the right vibes. The kind of vibes that make you know that you want to work with them, to tell their story from the very get-go. Taryn + Sam are those people.

Two people that on the surface might appear slightly shy or reserved, but then you set foot in their home and you feel like you've been friends for years. They spend their days designing and modeling cars, and spend their evenings working on their incredible mid-century home in Detroit (if you didn't see their engagement session at the house, check it out here). Basically what I'm trying to say, is that they ooze style and taste and I so completely dig them for that. I knew the wedding day was going to be nothing short of perfect, and that wish came true as well.

This is what it looks like when two people so deeply in love, tie the knot on Detroit's Belle Isle from ceremony to reception, and sun-up till sun-down. The day was magic, simple as that.

Lindsey + Stephen

Man, this day was so special; it's almost indescribable. First, welcome to the very first full wedding post on my new journal. I'm so stoked still with this new website and brand launch and can't thank you enough (whoever you are), for following along and valuing my work enough to visit my site and read these stories.

From the very first email Lindsey sent me, I knew this was a day I needed to be a part of. What was originally meant to be a true elopement, turned into just a very small wedding for the closest of family and friends from around the country. The setting? The historic, and newly re-opened for weddings Belle Isle Boathouse. Formal events haven't been held here for decades, and Lindsey and Stephen were only the second to have their wedding in this absolutely breathtaking space (the first was just the day prior). This wasn't just a pretty space to them though, this was their story, their history, where they met and formed their relationship years prior. Both being rowers themselves, and competing out of this location meant so much to them to return here with family and friends and craft this beautiful day.

The kicker though? They flew back home later this day! So that means a sunrise wedding on the largest island park in the United States; and it was epic. The sun coming up over the docks and the boats, pouring into the grand ballroom with the peeling paint, the mimosas and the chicken and waffles and the gathering of only those who mean the absolute most in their life.

Lindsey and Stephen: thank you for the incredible honor of telling your story. Of meeting you, and meeting your family, and meeting your friends and being a part of such an intimate and beautiful morning. It's something I won't soon forget.

So grab your coffee (or mimosa), and start the slow-scroll. You'll be glad you did.

Taryn + Sam

What do you get when you throw two car designers together that are ridiculously in love? You get Taryn and Sam. You get their fabulous Mid Century Home in Detroit with all of the details of a Dwell spread. You get a secret BMW 2002 hiding in the garage that I make them bring out (it's still a bit of a project car). You get chasing the sunset and runs through the city we all love so much. This is what dreams are made of, and why this job continues to push me and inspire me day in and day out. This is what it's all about. They get married on Belle Isle in just a couple of weeks, and I couldn't be more excited.

Carlie + Chris

People come into your life that you just know are going to be special. Carlie and Chris are those people. They're just so quietly perfect for one another. The calm in each others daily creative storm. I knew they'd be the perfect people to work with from the second I met them. Just check out their engagement session for further proof. The weather was incredible. The style was on-point (Carlie thrifted her dress, Chris had an amazing suit and a Shinola watch that wasn't even released to the public yet). The venue was as swanky as it gets. The near pitch-blackness of Cliff Bell's proved to be one of the most difficult lighting tasks I've come across in this job yet, but a welcome challenge and such fun, different results.

I'm so excited to be sharing their day with you today, it's such a welcome memory; even only a couple of months later. There's so many more weddings and shoots I've got to share with you coming up here, and I can't even wait to do so.

Teri + Josh

TJE_01.jpg

Teri and Josh. I've known them for what seems like forever. I finally get to see them come together and start this new adventure together this summer. Last fall we wandered Detroit for a few hours and just took it all in. The architecture, the sunset, the art, the people, the streetscapes. As the legendary Marvin Gaye once said: "Detroit turned out to be heaven."
