Kiana June Weber

Earlier this winter, MammothReach had the opportunity to work alongside the incredible violinist known as Kiana June Weber. Based out of the Ann Arbor area, but touring worldwide in various groups for the last few years, Kiana is one of the most talented and passionate artists we'd ever come in contact with. MammothReach signed on to create a completely new online presence for Kiana. This included branding, her website, as well as photography and art direction, all done in-house. On a freezing cold winter day, I shot the photos you see below as Kiana filmed her new music video and prepared for her latest tour with world-renowned Gaelic Storm. We were struck by her talent, by her poise, and by her excitement for her craft. I hope you will be too.

We were lucky enough to be able to collaborate on this project with our good friends Blake and Carl at Motion Parade on this project. They filmed this incredible music video for Kiana at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. Working on an incredibly tight schedule, they setup a circular track around her and filmed the same song upwards of 15 times, with her changing outfits between each take. I got to ride on the dolly and that was what allowed me to capture much of the portraits you see above. Give this video a good watch to see just how freaking talented this girl is.

Check out Kiana's brand-spanking new website here.

NorthRidge Church Spring 2013

NRCB_01.jpg

Just a quick look into what a weekend shooting lifestyle images for NorthRidge Church looks like. Lots of families, lots of laughs, lots of adventures across Detroit, and plenty of images to be used in upcoming brochures and on their website. I love it. This was the very first shoot that I got to utilize our brand new studio space along the incredible Detroit riverfront as well. I'd say it worked out nicely.

2012 :: YEAR IN REVIEW

Twenty-Twelve. Holy Crap. How do I even begin to describe it? The sheer amount of life change I got to experience in front of my lens is just jaw-dropping. In 2012 I:

Got married. Fell even deeper in love with my incredible wife Cali, I'd be nothing without her as my support system. Moved out of my parents house. Photographed people all around Michigan, Chicago, Nashville, Kentucky and more. Traveled out of the country for the first time. (Canada doesn't count) Launched MammothBooth! Got to welcome an incredible new niece and nephew into the world. Documented the weddings, engagements, families, seniors, and businesses of people that I genuinely care for, love, and am better off for knowing. Got an even deeper sense of the indescribable impact that a single photo can have on aforementioned people. Trespassed. A lot.

There was early mornings and long nights. There was times of extreme joy and times of unbearable stress. But these 194 images below are the reason why I continue to come back for more year after year. These aren't the most technically "correct" or "perfect" images I've ever taken. They won't necessarily have people knocking down my door to take photos of them. But they are my year in a nutshell. Each tells a story to me. The people, the places, the moments. Thank you so much to everyone that continually trusts me, believes in me, and allows me the honor of capturing these incredible moments. These images are my Twenty-Twelve.

Huge amounts of high-fives to Bryan, Abbey, Jakob, and Nick for locking down the second-shooter spots for me at some of these weddings as well. So much love for those talented people.

To Twenty-Thirteen. Let's make some memories together.

Detroit Denim Co.

A few months back, MammothReach had the opportunity to work with an amazing new client out of Detroit, called Detroit Denim Co. We were commissioned to create an entire online identity for this new startup that was making the commitment to making incredible, selvedge denim jeans and leather goods, all within the city of Detroit using 100% US-Sourced materials. The mission of this company was inspiring, and we are so stoked to play just a small part in it. Everything from branding, to the website, to all of the photos were accomplished in just a matter of months. Since launch, Detroit Denim Co. and owner Eric Yelsma have seen tremendous growth as they expand to stores and online sales not only within Michigan, but across the country as well. I was tasked with documenting everything about the process. From sketching and designing, to stitching and piecing together, to stamping the final patch on the back of the jeans. All done in a way that tells a story. This isn't another big-box retailer or products that are pieced together by robots; each pair of these jeans and every bag that comes out of their little factory in Corktown Detroit is handmade with incredible craftsmanship and needed to be documented as such. The products were all shot on the floor of the factory using natural light and the images for Detroit Denim's very first lookbook were all taken within 5 minutes of there. It's an incredible feeling to be a part of something like this. Something that is more than just dollars or pumping out products or selling the most jeans. It's about the process, it's about the city of Detroit and it's people, and it's about the love of the craft.

The Shop.

NorthRidge Church Summer/Fall 2011

I go to an amazing church that I am super proud and honored to be a part of. Occasionally I get to do some shooting for them, and I absolutely love it. It's such a stretch to step out of the mold of a wedding day and into setting up more elaborate shoots with someone directing and making the settings for some of my shots. It is much less spontaneous than a wedding or usual portrait shoots, but it is also has been such a freeing experience to shoot in this capacity. We started off the shoot at this ridiculously rad mansion in Indian Village in Detroit. Three floors of early 20th century amazingness, and the top floor was completely empty and an open slate for shooting. It was incredible. This first shot is a cell phone snap ↓

These particular photos were used to update the NorthRidge Church website and various marketing materials. I got to work with an awesome crew, as well as my great friends and fellow photographers Rob Woodcox and Ally Powell. Here's to trying new things and growing creatively, every second that you possibly can.
