Maddie

Late last fall, I had the honor of taking a quick 24-hour trip to Ocala, Florida to join Maddie for her Senior session on the most gorgeous of properties. It was an absolutely perfect day, with a ridiculous sunset cutting through the Spanish moss trees on Aaron + Mallory's farm. Maddie is a super talented equestrian athlete that takes time out of her busy school schedule to travel the country and compete, and getting to photograph her alongside the animals she knows best was such a pleasure. More days like this please, universe.

Lizzie

I've photographed this family more times than I can count. Christmas Pictures, Senior Photo's of all three girls (Emily was my second client ever), and everything else in between. The Van Der Walde's have been one of my biggest cheering sections, greatest clients, and such awesome friends. Just as we did with Sarah's Sessions (Part One and Part Two), we did a Michigan Session in Downtown Ann Arbor first. Then, because horses are such a huge part of her life, I hit the road to Lexington to photograph Lizzie at the Kentucky Horse Park. Everything about both of these days was perfect. The light in Kentucky as you'll see below was absolutely bonkers, and I got to stretch my camera to places it hasn't been before. Not to mention, those freaking majestic beasts Lizzie gets to compete with.

So take a second, and just get a little peak into the life of Lizzie as a Senior. She's pretty dang cool. My only sadness in all of this is that there's no more Van Der Walde girls left to photograph. We've just got to get them married off so I can start shooting some weddings :)

Mallory

Literally minutes after we started shooting in that beautiful, sunny, fall light; the clouds rolled in and brought some of the most intense wind and darkness, and fast. Rather than retreat to the cars, we decided to risk it and roll with what we were handed. What ensued was some absolutely perfect dramatic light (with no rain!) followed by a beautiful, perfect sunset hitting the lake. I'd call it a win all around. Not to mention, I'd kill for any of that warmth right about now. Meet Mallory, she's going to do some great things in this life.

Natalie

Gosh, it's so weird when "kids" you've known for years suddenly pop up and are ready for their Senior photos. I've got a few of them that came along this year, and Natalie was no exception. I've known her incredible family for years now, her Mom sang at my wedding, I used to volunteer with her Dad every weekend. They're simply the best. To have the honor to shoot her Senior photos and celebrate this rad time in her life, I'll take it. So check these out and show her some love on this fine Sunday morning, she was nervous but absolutely rocked it. As they normally do.

Alex

Alex is that special kind of Senior. The kind that makes you smile. The kind that makes you know they're going to do ridiculously rad things with their life. The kind that knocks the socks off their photo session. That kind. Let me know if you think the same.

Taylor

Given that we were attempting to shoot Taylor's Senior session in April, she wins the personal record for most reschedules on account of crappy weather (8 I believe between the 2 separate parts), but luckily the days we did shoot on, we had the most ridiculously amazing weather Michigan could offer us. I know I say this every time, but Seniors are simply the coolest. If you're looking to do something different, not at the same studio as everyone else in your class with the same dangling your feet in the fake pond or staring out the fake window, let's chat. It'll be awesome, promise.

2012 :: YEAR IN REVIEW

Twenty-Twelve. Holy Crap. How do I even begin to describe it? The sheer amount of life change I got to experience in front of my lens is just jaw-dropping. In 2012 I:

Got married. Fell even deeper in love with my incredible wife Cali, I'd be nothing without her as my support system. Moved out of my parents house. Photographed people all around Michigan, Chicago, Nashville, Kentucky and more. Traveled out of the country for the first time. (Canada doesn't count) Launched MammothBooth! Got to welcome an incredible new niece and nephew into the world. Documented the weddings, engagements, families, seniors, and businesses of people that I genuinely care for, love, and am better off for knowing. Got an even deeper sense of the indescribable impact that a single photo can have on aforementioned people. Trespassed. A lot.

There was early mornings and long nights. There was times of extreme joy and times of unbearable stress. But these 194 images below are the reason why I continue to come back for more year after year. These aren't the most technically "correct" or "perfect" images I've ever taken. They won't necessarily have people knocking down my door to take photos of them. But they are my year in a nutshell. Each tells a story to me. The people, the places, the moments. Thank you so much to everyone that continually trusts me, believes in me, and allows me the honor of capturing these incredible moments. These images are my Twenty-Twelve.

Huge amounts of high-fives to Bryan, Abbey, Jakob, and Nick for locking down the second-shooter spots for me at some of these weddings as well. So much love for those talented people.

To Twenty-Thirteen. Let's make some memories together.

Randal

MFB_01.jpg

Being chosen to document the incredible time in a teen's life, known as their Senior year is right up there with the honor that comes along with documenting a wedding day. Getting invited into the family, even if only for a couple hours is such a humbling experience. This time around I got to document not only Randal, but the rest of his family as well and it was worth every second. The Mill's family does it right.
